FAQs
-
Shoes: Sauna is most often done barefoot. You will occasionally see people with some kind of shoe, but it’s usually due to an injury or medical condition. This is usually welcome news for people who are tired of carrying around an extra pair of shoes for their fitness activities.
Pants: Don’t run out and try buy special pants…they don’t exist! You are welcome to wear a bathing suit and/or any comfortable exercise pants or shorts will do. Plan accordingly as whatever you do wear will soaked by the time the session is complete.
Tops: For ladies, you are welcome to wear whatever kind of sports bra and/or bathing suit top that makes you feel comfortable. Remember that you whatever you choose to wear will be soaked by the time the session is complete. For gentlemen, you are welcome to wear a shirt or not. Again, whatever you choose to wear will be soaked by the time the session is complete.
-
Towels: If you are headed to your very first session, don’t worry about bringing a towel for the sauna! We provide you with 2 tea towels. One for wiping and one for sitting on while in the sauna. If you plan on taking a shower at the studio after, you are welcome to bring your own or you can rent one for a $1 from us!
Water Bottles: Bring your favorite water bottle as hydration is an important part of the sauna process. We have a filtered bottle water filling station in the studio and we have ice water on hand at the sauna. Additionally we also have drinks for sale in case you forget your water bottle. AND no surprise we have branded water bottles if you’d like to rep our brand!
Electrolytes: We have LMNT for sale at the studio which is a great electrolyte replacement that we strongly suggest you consider adding to your sauna practice. There is a robust body of scientific literature that shows we have underestimated our electrolyte needs for decades, especially if you live an active, sweaty lifestyle.
-
Pre-Hydration: The best way to hydrate is to begin drinking water before a session begins, continue while in the sauna, and drink more water once you get out. Hydrating before gives your body the reserve it needs to allow your liver and kidneys to detoxify properly. Hydrating afterward allows for your body to replenish fluids that were lost via sweat. We strongly recommend the use of LMNT (see above) to replace lost electrolytes.
Food: It’s best not to eat a heavy meal right before you sauna. We do suggest fueling up with a light snack at least 2 or 3 hours prior to class just so you aren’t distracted by hunger. A sauna session is nourishing to both body and soul for sure!
